Alsace Round 2 sampling trip

January and February were busy months for the Alsace sub-project. The skeletons from the Rosheim Rosenmeer cemetery were sampled in Bordeaux and then Penny Bickle and archaeozoologist Adrienne Powell (Cardiff University) made it safely through the snow to Strasbourg, where they sampled articulating and refitting animal bone from both LBK and Middle Neolithic settlement pits from Basse Alsace. Due to the availability of samples, it was decided that we would focus only on Basse Alsace sites for this round of dates and at the end of February about 60 samples were submitted for dating. Finding samples from the second half of the Middle Neolithic sequence is proving more difficult, so Anthony Denaire and Philippe Lefranc are still investigating the archives for possible samples.
