Peter Marshall visited a very cold but picturesque Budapest in January to discuss the first round of results from Szederkény-Kukorica-dűlő. Although temperatures were well below zero even in the daytime, the dry and windless conditions provided a welcome respite from the wind and rain battering England. A dusting of snow resulted in the Buda side of the city looking even more like a scene from a fairy tale.
The results from the samples submitted in 2013 proved even more exciting than we could have imagined and have meant that the dating programme for this site will undoubtedly expand. We are currently making plans for a visit before the end of the winter to the museum at Pécs to make a thorough assessment of all the animal bone from contexts with good assemblages of Vinča material culture. With a bit of luck if we can find suitable samples in time we hope that the results will be back in time for the European Association of Archaeologists meeting in Istanbul in September.
